General

General

The Foundation purpose is to support initiatives that aim to strengthen systems, improve decision- making and increase positive societal impact by applying analytics, optimization and technology. The Foundation is not limited to specific sectors, themes, target groups or regions, and aims to maintain flexibility in identifying societal challenges and opportunities.

The Foundation aims not only to provide financial support, but especially to use analytical expertise, optimization and technology to help organizations active in the societal field improve their decision-making and create positive impact.

The Foundation believes that it best achieves this in collaboration with other parties, such as academia, non-profit organizations and industry.

Criteria

Projects supported by the Foundation are assessed on, among other things,
the following criteria: alignment with the Foundation’s mission;
the role of data, analytics or optimization in the proposed initiative;
the expected impact;
the feasibility, scalability and sustainability (of the project;
the governance and credibility of the organisation involved;
the alignment of the required donation with the Foundation’s budget.
the responsible and effective use of financial resources;
the monitoring & evaluation approach (what is being measured and how).
The Board retains full discretion as to whether or not to grant an application.

Criteria
Application for donations

Application for donations

The Foundation works in two complementary ways:

  • The Foundation proactively seeks out partners, social and charitable organizations, including social enterprises where appropriate, that initiate and/or fund projects or programs that are in line with the Foundation’s vision and mission.
  • The Foundation also remains open to proposals from external organizations whose initiatives align with the Foundation’s mission. Organizations may submit a request by completing the application form and submitting the requested documentation via the “Submit” button.

In addition, the Foundation also welcomes suggestions from ORTEC employees who know of organizations or initiatives that could benefit from the Foundation’s support.

If a project proposal is approved, the applicant will receive a Grant Letter setting out the arrangements relating to the donation, such as the payment schedule, monitoring and evaluation arrangements and communication. If a project proposal is rejected, the Foundation will inform the applicant as soon as reasonably possible and provide an explanation for the rejection.

Contacts for support

If an applicant believes that a project or program could benefit from the involvement of ORTEC or from Analytics for a Better World (ABW), the applicant may contact:
For ORTEC support - [email protected]
For ABW support: [email protected]

Any such support must be agreed in advance and the applicant should describe the agreed support in the application, including the scope of work, expected time commitment and any associated costs, and include a written confirmation from the party involved.

Contacts for support

During the execution of a project or program supported by the Foundation, the Board considers it important to maintain regular contact with the partner organisation or applicant, whether in person, by telephone or digitally.

At the end of a project, the organisation is required to submit a final report. In the case of multi-year donations, the organisation must also submit interim reports before the Foundation releases the next instalment of the donation. Where relevant, the Foundation may also request periodic evaluation reports
during the project.

Reports should contain at least the following:

  • The actual activities carried out compared to the project plan, including the actual impact versus the expected impact;
  • challenges, lessons learned and any possible follow-up steps; and
  • financial accountability.

Monitoring and evaluation provide the Foundation with valuable information to assess whether its mission and execution are adding value and to further increase its impact.
